Fire officials say a woman has died and three other people were taken to hospitals after a fire in an apartment building in the western Massachusetts town of Palmer.
Fire Chief Allan Roy said flames broke out around 5 p.m. Monday in the building on Pleasant Street and some residents were seen jumping from a third-story window as firefighters arrived.
The state fire marshal's office was called in to investigate the cause of the two-alarm blaze. It was not known how many people were in the building at the time.
The Red Cross is assisting in finding shelter for those left homeless by the fire.
The identity of the woman who died has not been released.
