Roxbury House Fire Causes $500,000 in Damage, 10 Displaced: Officials

Five children and five adults were displaced in the overnight blaze

Ten people, including several children, were displaced from their homes after a fire ripped through a multi-family building in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood early Monday.

The overnight fire was reported around 12:20 a.m. at a home on 15 Powellton St., according to the Boston Fire Department. Officials said smoke was initially seen pouring from the third floor of the structure.

Crews were able to knock down the fire and an MBTA bus sheltered the tenants. The blaze caused an estimated $500,000 in damage, according to officials.

The building’s residents, which included five adults and five children, all fled the structure safely. No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

Authorities said the Red Cross would be providing housing for the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
