11-Year-Old Girl Saves Residents From House Fire

Officials in Brockton, Massachusetts, are crediting an 11-year-old girl with rescuing residents of a house that caught fire Tuesday.

Around 9:50 a.m., flames broke out at the wood frame home at 38 Otis Street with six adults and five children inside.

The Brockton Fire Department says an 11-year-old girl started warning residents after her grandmother smelled smoke. She was able to get all the kids on the first floor out and then ran up to the second and third floors to knock on doors and get the rest of the occupants out of the house.

The fire caused extensive damage and all residents are displaced. The Red Cross is assisting them.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
