24 to Be Arraigned for Alleged Cockfighting Ring

Eighteen gamecocks were seized from the home, five of which appeared to be severely injured

Two dozen people accused of being involved in a cockfighting ring are facing arraignment.

The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court. They were arrested Friday at a Tewksbury, Massachusetts, home.

Two of them are accused of organizing the fight and are charged with cruelty to animals, keeping or promoting an animal fight and other crimes. The other 22 suspects are charged with cruelty to animals and being present at an animal fight.

Police were acting on a tip when they raided the home.

Responding officers found roosters with spurs attached to them in order to inflict more damage to one another.
