A Milford, Massachusetts, 5th grade student was been suspended for making a “threatening gesture,” according to the school, and officials are moving forward to learn how to properly respond to similar incidents.

The Milford Daily News reports that Nickolas Taylor was suspended for pointing his fingers like an imaginary ray gun and making laser noises.

His father, Brian Taylor, told the Daily News that a conduct slip was written by Assistant Principal Noah Collins, and that it said Nickolas made the noises when two girls came to him and told him he cut the lunch line. The Daily News reports that Nickolas said he was standing behind the girls and was shooting his imaginary gun in no particular direction.

According to a statement, the school held a meeting on the incident with Taylor and agreed that the incident raised “collective awareness” on how to better respond to similar incidents.

According to release, “the matter, from the view of all parties, is now resolved.”
