Man Killed in Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer in Blandford, Mass.

A 61-year-old man was killed following a crash involving a tractor-trailer on the Mass. Turnpike in Blandford, Massachusetts, according to state police.

At about 5:20 p.m., state troopers responded to the 28.6 mile-marker of Interstate 90 for reports of a crash involving a 2015 Ford Mustang and a tractor-trailer. At the scene, officials discovered the Ford driver dead. State police identified him only as a Shrewsbury man.

The driver of the big rig, a 46-year-old Pennsylvania man, was not injured in the crash.

State police say a preliminary investigation reveals the tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on I-90 when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle turned around in the emergency lane and into the eastbound lanes. The Ford then struck the big rig from the rear, authorities said.

Initially, all eastbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike in the area were closed. They reopened just before 10 p.m.

Police did not reveal the identities of the two crash victims.
