Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Attempt to Flee

Maxwell Bethony Jr. of New Bedford, Mass. will be charged with unarmed robbery among other charges

A robbery suspect attempted to flee from authorities as he was being frisked in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Wednesday -- but was quickly taken to the ground.

Police responded to Bank 5 located at 55 Thirteenth St. at 10:20 a.m.

A description of the suspect was given to patrol officers. The key to the description was that the sweatshirt the man was wearing was being worn inside out, and the tag was showing.

An officer located the suspect in the area of Cherry and Linden Sts.

During the pat frisk, the officer noticed a white bank envelope with money sticking out of it in the man's sweatshirt pocket. It was then when the suspect attempted to flee, but was taken to the ground.

Maxwell Bethony Jr., 25, of 54 Lafayette St. in New Bedford will be charged with unarmed robbery, resisting arrest, and armed and masked robbery.

Bethony is also responsible for the robbery at Stop & Save at 201 Rock St. in Fall River on Jan. 31.

No one was injured in either incident.
