Boston-Bound Flight From Las Vegas Experiences Engine Trouble

A Boston-bound flight from Las Vegas experienced engine issues just before it was set to depart on Sunday morning, according to JetBlue.

Flight 178 had smoke coming from its right engine just before takeoff, the airline said in a statement.

McCarran International Airport spokesman Chris Jones said Monday the fire did not spread and no injuries were reported in the 11:30 a.m. Sunday incident.

The smoke was suppressed and the Airbus with 146 passengers and crew aboard was taken back to its gate safely, officials said.

All passengers deplaned the aircraft, which was taken out of service for inspection. Customers were accommodated with another aircraft, JetBlue said.

JetBlue said in a statement that a right engine fire suppression system activated, and Jones said airport firefighters responded.

Flight records show the rescheduled flight departed Las Vegas at 7:15 p.m. Pacific time and arrived at Logan International Airport in Boston at 3:10 a.m. Monday Eastern time.
