The Boston Bruins have hired a new general manager.
The team has announced Don Sweeney will take over the roll left vacant when Peter Chiarelli was fired last month.
Forty-eight-year-old Sweeney is a Harvard graduate who played with the Bruins for 15 seasons starting in the late 1980s. He ranks third on the team's all-time games played list.
Sweeney joined the team's front office in 2006 and has served as the team's assistant general manager for the past six years.
