Boston Company Tracks Your Personal Carbon Footprint

You can track almost anything with your smartphone these days. Now, thanks to a Boston-based start-up, you can also track your own carbon footprint with your phone.

Joro uses your credit card spending to estimate your impact on the environment.

“When we see you spend, say $200 on a flight, we make an estimate about how far you’ve traveled, or we see you’ve spent $100 at Whole Foods, we make an estimate about the typical basket of goods a typical shopper is buying at Whole Foods, then we trace that back and estimate the carbon of those goods,” co-founder Sanchali Pal says.

Based on your data, the app also recommends ways to limit your carbon footprint. In turn, that can help reduce the impacts of climate change.
