The Massachusetts Turnpike is experiencing heavier traffic Tuesday morning as crews continue to work on the Commonwealth Avenue bridge project in Boston.
Although Monday's commute was better than expected, MassDOT was seeing a higher volume of traffic on Tuesday, which was causing hour-long delays.
"We're seeing more traffic come into the city today than we did yesterday, so we're hoping that people continue to take our advice and to come in at a different timeframe or at least, if they can't come in at a different time, then avoid the area all together," acting highway administrator Jonathan Gulliver said.
Only two lanes of I-90 are open in each direction for the morning commute throughout the week. The three-lane configuration used Friday night will be in place again this Friday night.
Commonwealth Avenue is open to limited traffic. Detours are in place around the construction site.

Commuter rail and Amtrak trains are back to normal Monday, but high ridership is anticipated throughout the week. Riders are encouraged to use non-peak time trains.
Officials are still encouraging people to seek alternate routes and avoid the area altogether if possible.
