Officials Search for Owner of Abandoned Car Found in Charles River

Officials in Massachusetts are searching for the owner of a vehicle that was found abandoned in the Charles River around sunrise on Tuesday.

Cambridge firefighters responded to a report of a car in the water at about 5 a.m. near Memorial Drive. At the scene, they found a door of the vehicle open.

Divers checked the water while fire crews scoured the area for the vehicle's owner, but to no avail.

"We checked around the vehicle and underneath the vehicle, but not victims found," Cambridge Fire Department Deputy Chief Peter Donovan said. "We had the vehicle removed by the tow."

State police are now investigating to determine who the car is registered to.

Details on how the vehicle ended up in the water were not immediately clear. The investigation is ongoing.
