8 Hurt, 1 Seriously, in Rollover Crash on Icy I-95 in Boxford

The van had swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle traveling north on Interstate 95

Eight people were hurt in a van that rolled over on Interstate 95 North in Boxford, Massachusetts, Thursday morning after the van skidded on ice, police said.

One of those people was seriously hurt in the crash that took place about 7 a.m. near Exit 51, according to Massachusetts State Police. The other injuries were minor.

Images from the scene showed an overturned van in the median of the highway, surrounded by multiple ambulances and about a dozen state police cruisers.

The van had swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle traveling north on I-95. The roadway was icy, police said, and the van lost control, traveling into the median and rolling over.

All eight people inside were taken to local hospitals for treatment; police didn't say which person was seriously hurt, and didn't identify them.

The crash is still under investigation but no one is yet facing charges, police said.

The incident comes as multiple car crashes were reported in the Boston area after a cold night made for slippery conditions.
