Massachusetts is preparing to roll out a first-in-the-nation slot machine feature meant to curb gambling addiction by letting patrons limit their betting.

State regulators said Thursday that Plainridge Park in Plainville will pilot the new technology by the end of May. It's Massachusetts' first casino.

Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby says the "Play My Way" system will be imposed on future casino developments if successful.

But the American Gaming Association says the technology hasn't proved effective in casinos in Singapore, Norway, Canada and elsewhere that have tried it.

Massachusetts' system allows casino patrons to set up daily, weekly or monthly betting limits.

They'll be notified when they approach 50, 75 percent and 100 percent of the limit. But they'll never be cut off and the limits can be adjusted.
