Cops: Sex Assault Reported at University Unfounded

Authorities at a southeastern Massachusetts university say a report of a sexual assault has been determined to be unfounded.

Police originally said an 18-year-old female freshman student at Bridgewater State University was sexually assaulted Monday night after agreeing to meet a man near the Rondileau Campus Center. The woman reportedly was meeting the man for the first time after talking with him on a popular social media smartphone app.

Now campus police say they are formally closing the case.

No formal charges are being made, but the university will conduct its own investigation through its standard conduct process.
