A Massachusetts couple is facing animal abuse charges after a dog was found in poor health wandering a road last week.
Forty-two-year-old Thomas Burke and 43-year-old Kerry Burke, both of 237 Sanford Rd., were arrested on Tuesday, according to affiliate WJAR.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston says a female dog, whose fur was severely matted and smelled strongly of feces and urine, was found walking on Sanford Road on June 5.
The dog, which rescuers have named "Jersey," is still in severe condition and is scheduled to undergo surgery.
WJAR reports the couple, who reportedly also have three Dachshunds in poor health, are expected in court on Tuesday.
