Couple Weathers Storm When Power is Knocked Out at Mass. Reception

Guests were served by candlelight while food was cooked at a facility next door

Powerful thunderstorms that whipped through parts of New England on Saturday and left damage in many areas also left a lasting impression at the wedding of a couple in Groton, Massachusetts.

The storm, captured on cell phone video, almost brought Ashley and Greg Galluci's wedding at Gibbet Hill Farm to a halt.

"I just sat there and watched it and I was like 'Wow,'" recalled Greg Galluci. "It was bad because it was blowing the dirt."

"It looked like a dust storm,'" Ashley Galluci added.

The storm happened during the couple's cocktail hour, which knocked out power to the venue and left guests in the dark for much of the reception. Gibbet Hill staff was forced to bring in candles and cook the food at a facility next door.

Being a native of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Ashley Gallugi knew the only thing you can't control at a wedding is the weather.

"It was lights out so it was fine, but then it started getting darker and the air conditioning wasn't working so it got a little stressful," said Ashley Galluci. "I probably cried for the first hour of the reception but then I got over it."

Despite the hiccups, the couple said the staff did a wonderful job and family and friends had a great time.

"It was awesome. I can only imagine how could it would have been if the lights were on," said Ashley Galluci.
