Crews Respond to Serious Crash in North Reading, Mass.

Authorities are responding to a serious crash in North Reading, Massachusetts, Wednesday evening.

North Reading Fire confirms that a motor vehicle and a tractor trailer crashed near 265 Main St. shortly after 6 p.m.

Initial investigation reveals that the tractor-trailer may have illegally parked on the side of the road in the southbound lane when a woman crashed her vehicle directly into the rear of the truck. The impact of the crash sheared off the roof of the car and sent it spinning into the northbound lane.

Officials extricated the driver, a woman in her 30s, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle. A medical helicopter took her to a Boston hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

North Reading Police said Main Street (Route 28) was closed by the Stop and Shop Plaza during the investigation.
