DA Names Massachusetts Officer Who Killed Boston Man in Lynn

Massachusetts authorities have released the name of the police officer who officials say killed a 23-year-old Boston man after being struck by the suspect's car.

The Essex District Attorney's Office said Thursday that Lynn Detective Stephen Emery shot Rafael Suazo to death on Monday in Lynn.

Investigators say Emery, an 18-year veteran of the force, was walking toward Suazo's car when Suazo drove at him, struck him and knocked him down. The district attorney's office says Emery fired a single gunshot through the windshield that struck Suazo in the head.

Emery was treated at a hospital and discharged.

Police say Suazo was dealing drugs. Two men accused of buying heroin from Suazo just before the shooting were charged with drug possession.

The district attorney's office is investigating the shooting.
