A district attorney has found that two Massachusetts police officers acted in self-defense when they shot and killed a man outside the home where he stabbed his mother to death.
The Norfolk County district attorney completed a 15-week-long review of the Jan. 19 shooting of 49-year-old Paul Campbell.
District Attorney Michael Morrissey said Monday that Campbell, who is also a friend of actor Mark Wahlberg, killed his mother, called police and then came at them with a knife.
Neighbors told investigators they heard police repeatedly tell Campbell to drop the knife before several shots rang out. The report said both officers did try to save his life.
Campbell had been arrested previously for drug possession, drunk driving, and assault.
He had roles in "The Fighter," ''Ted" and "American Hustle."
