Downed wires were reported in two New England towns Tuesday morning following a dusting of snow overnight and powerful wind gusts.
In Hopkinton, Massachusetts, crews responded to a downed tree that knocked down wires and power to the area. Officials closed Ash Street in both directions from the Doughboy Statue at the Hopkinton Town Common to 22 Ash St.
Authorities urged commuters to avoid the area while crews responded to the incident. As a result of the power outage, Hopkinton Public Schools canceled Tuesday classes.
As of 6:30 a.m., approximately 6,000 customers were without power Tuesday in Massachusetts. Most outages were reported in Hopkinton, Foxborough, Hamilton and Wenham.
By 5 p.m., power had been restored to all but 50 customers. Eversource crews were working to install a transformer.
Meanwhile, police in Manchester, New Hampshire warned residents to avoid Lake Shore Road south of Candia Road and north of Island Pond. The area was affected by downed live wires, according to officials.
Eversource responded to the Manchester incident, as well.
