Bishop Shot at New Hampshire Wedding Still in Critical Condition: Family

Bishop Stanley Choate was shot in the chest on Oct. 12 during a wedding ceremony in Pelham, New Hampshire

The bishop who was shot during a wedding ceremony earlier this month in New Hampshire remains in critical condition, the man's family said Wednesday during a press conference.

Bishop Stanley Choate, 75, was seriously injured when he was shot in the chest on Oct. 12. He has been receiving treatment at Tufts Medical Center in Boston since the shooting in Pelham.

"The bishop suffered multiple gunshot wounds during this tragic event, including life-threatening injuries to his chest," said John Choate, the bishop's eldest child. "While he has made slow progress, he has remained in critical condition since the incident."

The victim oversees five churches, according to his son. He is the author of two books and released two gospel albums.

"The bishop touched many lives in his community with his kindness and ability to make most people feel a sense of belonging," John Choate said. "He is truly a man of peace and integrity”

Choate was one of three victims hurt during the wedding ceremony – bride Claire McMullen was shot in the arm and groom Mark Castiglione was pistol-whipped by the accused gunman, 37-year-old Dale Holloway.

Holloway faces charges including attempted murder, second-degree assault, simple assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. An additional assault charge was filed against him after he allegedly attacked his lawyer in a secured interview room in jail, according to authorities.
