Fan's Condition Improves After Being Hit by Bat

A woman who was badly injured by a broken bat at Fenway Park last week is on the mend.

Thursday, officials with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center announced that Tonya Carpenter is now in good condition. Her family had stated Monday that she had been upgraded from serious to fair condition.

Carpenter sustained life-threatening injuries when the bat of Oakland Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie shattered, flying into the stands and hitting her in the head.

Tuesday night, Lawrie confirmed that Carpenter had gotten some flowers he sent her.

As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a GoFundMe page set up by family friend Mickey Markou has raised more than $14,500 of its $30,000 goal. Nearly 300 people had donated.
