Firefighter Charged in OUI Hit-and-Run

A Brookline, Massachusetts, firefighter is accused of getting in two crashes while drunk Saturday, causing a victim to become entrapped in a car in Newton.

Jeremy Joseph, 34, is one of two Brookline firefighters to be arrested in one weekend, with 37-year-old Joseph Ward being charged with assault and battery for allegedly beating a man outside Anna's Taqueria because the man took too long to order his food.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office says Joseph was arrested after hitting a car on Lagrange Street, getting in another crash on Corey Street and trying to flee.

Newton Fire had to extricate the victim from his vehicle in the Lagrange Street crash. No information about his condition was immediately available.

Joseph was also hurt in the crash, being taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The firefighter was arraigned Tuesday for OUI, leaving the scene of a crash causing injury, negligent operation and a marked lanes violation.

Both arrested firefighters are both on administrative leave from Brookline Fire while the cases are being investigated.

Joseph is due back in court on Nov. 6.
