2-Alarm Fire Destroys Garage in Lawrence, Massachusetts

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze

A garage was destroyed by flames Wednesday in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

The 2-alarm fire broke out on 290 High St. It was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters had to battle the blaze along with 90 degree heat. Lawrence General Hospital had staff on the site to help crews weather the high temperatures.

"They set up two rehab areas for us," said Lawrence Fire Chief Brian Moriarty.

Three families live in the home in front of the burned-out garage.

"We're thankful we're all fine," said resident Narleen Marte. "It's all material stuff, so we'll be OK."

Three surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution, and the American Red Cross of Massachusetts assisted the families affected by the fire.
