Foundation Named for Marathon Victim to Award $1 Million Grant

Project 351 will receive a $1 million grant from the Martin Richard Foundation

The foundation founded by the family of the 8-year-old boy killed in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing has announced it will donate $1 million to a local nonprofit.

The Martin Richard Foundation says the grant will be awarded to Project 351, a nonprofit that encourages youth leadership throughout Massachusetts.

The foundation says the grant announced Sunday will be its single biggest donation yet.

The award reflects the foundation's focus on donating to youth development organizations that provide programs in "civic engagement; community building; and adaptive and inclusive efforts."

The Richard family formed the foundation in 2014 in honor of their son, Martin, who was the youngest of the three people killed at the marathon finish line.
