Fugitive Child Rape Suspect Arrested in Puerto Rico

Markys Semprith Garcia allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl and threatened to harm her if she told anyone

U.S. Marshals and Massachusetts State Police say a suspect has been arrested in Puerto Rico on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl.

Markys Semprith Garcia was arrested Friday at a relative's house in Puerto Rico.

The 18-year-old Semprith was charged with aggravated statutory rape in Worcester, Massachusetts, and witness intimidation. State Police say that in 2014, Semprith, an acquaintance of the victim's family, raped her in her home and threatened to harm her if she told anyone.

The alleged incident was reported in September.

It was not known Friday if Semprith is represented by a lawyer.

Federal marshals in Puerto Rico acted on a tip from Massachusetts authorities.

Worcester County prosecutors and federal officials will arrange for Semprith's extradition to the United States. No additional information is available.
