Horse Dies in Massachusetts Stable Fire; Many Others Saved

The cause of the fire remains under investigation

Authorities say one horse has died in a fire at a Agawam, Massachusetts stable, but several others were rescued.

The fire at Crowley's Sales Barn and Stables was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Agawam Fire Lt. James Deming says eight to 12 horses were in the barn at the time. Damage was estimated at $100,000. There were no reports of human injuries.

Crowley's sells and auctions horses and offers riding classes and trail rides. It was established in 1960, according to its website.

The stable's Facebook page says the horse that died was named Lois and was owned by Alice Crowley, one of the stable's owners.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The state fire marshal is assisting.
