Witness Shares Heartbreaking Details About Suspicious Death of 1-Year-Old Girl at NH Hotel

Police responded to a call of a medical emergency at an Econo Lodge in Manchester, New Hampshire

Police in Manchester, New Hampshire are investigating what they are calling a suspicious "untimely death" of a child at a hotel.

Authorities responded to an Econo Lodge on the city's West Side at about 6 p.m. Monday after they received a call of an emergency involving a child.

The child, who was only identified as a 1-year-old girl, was taken to Catholic Medical Center and later pronounced dead. An autopsy performed on Tuesday was inconclusive.

A man who was in the room at the time of the incident shared heartbreaking details with NBC10 Boston, but did not want to be identified.

"It's just crazy how you're here one day and the next you're gone," he said.

The man said he was staying overnight at the hotel with his friend, the 1-year-old daughter of the friend's girlfriend and the 1-year-old's sibling.

"She was beautiful, she was happy," the man said.

He said he fell asleep and woke up to the sounds of his panicked friend, holding the little girl in his arms. "I seen my boy with the kid lifeless in his hands."

The man said he tried CPR, and when that didn't work, they called 911. He's not sure exactly what happened -- all he knows is the last time he saw the child alive, she was playing in the bathtub with her sibling.

"My boy fell asleep. I don't know if they were just wrestling in the tub and she hit her head. I don't know."

Manchester police and the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office are working to determine the cause of the child's death.
