Jeweler Charged With Stealing From Customers

Scott Marek, owner of Marek Jewelers in Westfield, Massachusetts, and Enfield, Connecticut, was released on $2,000 bail

The owner of jewelry stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut has been charged with stealing from more than a dozen customers.

Scott Marek, owner of Marek Jewelers in Westfield, Massachusetts, and Enfield, Connecticut, was released on $2,000 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in Westfield District Court to multiple counts of larceny.

Authorities say expensive items brought in by customers for repair were either not fixed or were not returned, and customers who brought Marek items for sale on consignment did not receive their cut of the sales proceeds.

Westfield police say 15 customers have complained about Marek's business practices.

Customers say when they went to the Westfield store it was often shuttered or Marek rebuffed them.

Marek's lawyer did not return a call for comment.
