Man Charged With Murder of Homeless Woman Found in River to Face Judge

A man accused of killing a homeless 24-year-old woman whose body was found in a Massachusetts river is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

Lawrence resident Giovanni Lebron, 24, was arrested Wednesday on charges of murder, according to the Essex District Attorney’s Office. He is charged in connection to the death of woman whose body was found in the Spicket River a day earlier.

Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, Lawrence police responded to a call of a body in the river near Manchester Street Park. A state police dive team recovered the body of the woman.

Authorities did not release her name, saying her family had not been notified, but identified her as a 24-year-old homeless woman. Investigators determined her death was homicide.

Officials did not reveal a cause of death.

Lebron is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Lawrence District Court. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
