Man Held on $100,000 Bail, Pleads Not Guilty to Prostitution Charges

A 61-year-old Lowell man charged with preying on homeless, drug-addicted woman and turning them to prostitution has been held on $100,000 bail.

Harold Jack Lucas, who has a criminal record that dates to 1973, was held after pleading not guilty Tuesday to trafficking in persons for sexual servitude, deriving support from prostitution, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Prosecutors say Lucas gave the women drugs and a place to stay, and took them to Atlantic City to engage in prostitution, then kept all the money they made.

Lucas previously served three years on prison on prostitution charges.

Lucas' attorney argued for lower bail, saying he is not a flight risk and is disabled. Lucas used a cane in court.
