Lynn, Massachusetts Newspaper Asks Rolling Stones to Return to Town

Publisher of the Daily Item wants band to return 50 years after shortened concert

The publisher of a Massachusetts newspaper is asking the Rolling Stones to return to town, 50 years after the iconic rock band cut short a show during a thunderstorm, leading fans to rampage.

Ted Grant, publisher of the Daily Item, of Lynn, said in an open letter published Tuesday that "a lot has changed" since the band was last in town, on June 24, 1966.

The British rockers left the stage during a storm at the Manning Bowl stadium. Grant says angry fans broke through the barriers, prompting police to use tear gas. But he admits he wasn't there because his mother wouldn't let him out after dark.

Grant has offered to pick up the band from the airport and let them crash at his house.
