Man Accused of Carjacking, Police Pursuit, Due in Court

Police say the incident started when Anthony Loto carjacked a 74-year-old woman in the parking lot of a Plymouth Stop and Shop

A 26-year-old East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, man is expected to be in court Tuesday after allegedly leading police on a wild chase that ended with the allegedly stolen car he was driving smashing into a Taunton home.

Police say the incident started when Anthony Loto carjacked a 74-year-old woman in the parking lot of a Plymouth Stop and Shop.

Loto allegedly told her that her husband needed her inside the store. When she stepped away, he allegedly pushed her, stole her keys and fled the scene.

Loto led police on a chase weaving in and out of traffic through a number of communities while driving on Route 3, Route 3A, and Route 44.

He was eventually taken into custody when police say the stolen Ford Fusion crashed into the foundation of a Taunton home.

He was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

Loto was charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery, assault and battery on a person over 60, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
