Man Apparently Struck, Killed by Freight Train in Athol Massachusetts

The victim has not been identified yet

Officials say a man appears to have been struck and killed by a freight train in northwestern Massachusetts.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office says the accident happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday on a stretch of Pan Am Railroad tracks in Athol, near the Royalston town line.

District attorney spokeswoman Mary Carey said Athol and Royalston emergency responders as well as state and railroad police responded to the incident, which remains under investigation.

Official aren't identifying the victim yet. Carey said an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
