Man Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Elderly Father

A Massachusetts man is facing a series of charges after allegedly assaulting his elderly father and resisting arrest.

Charges against Michael L. Dupray, 48, of Ipswich include domestic assault and battery of an elderly person, use of a firearm during a felony, resisting arrest and reckless destruction of property.

Police say officers arrived at a home on Skytop Road Monday just before 8 p.m. for a report of domestic violence in progress.

A young woman told arriving officers that her father, who was later identified as Dupray, was attacking her grandfather, according to police. When Dupray left the home a short while later, police say officers spotted him carrying a loaded shotgun and an ammunition belt.

Police told Dupray to put down the weapon, which he did; however, police say Dupray still resisted arrest before he was put into a police cruiser.

He was booked at Ipswich Police Department, and then taken to Beverly Hospital for evaluation, where he was released into the custody of the Middleton House of Correction.

It's not clear when his arraignment is or if he has an attorney.
