Man Avoids Jail Time After Fatal Crash

Michael Dalto was given two years of probation, lost his license for 15 years, and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service

An East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, man who drove across the Route 6 median in Sandwich and crashed head-on into a car driven by a 32-year-old Barnstable father of two has pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide.

Michael Dalto was given two years of probation, lost his license for 15 years, and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service after entering his plea Wednesday.

Prosecutors say the 46-year-old Dalto was driving east last November when he started fiddling with his cellphone's GPS and veered across the median. He struck a car driven by 32-year-old Lawrence Barros, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cape Cod Times reports
that Barros' widow, Monica, did not want Dalto to go to jail and said she doesn't "hold an ounce of anger" against Dalto.
