Man Faces 8 Charges After High Speed Chase

At 7:18 a.m., Connecticut State Police advised Massachusetts authorities that they were pursuing a vehicle with Arizona plates on Route 84 eastbound. Police tried to stop him at the Massachusetts line, but the vehicle continued onto the Massachusetts Turnpike at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit ensued across all lanes of traffic. The vehicle nearly struck a trooper in Charlton as he attempted to deploy sticks to flatten the tires of the vehicle, and sideswiped a state police cruiser. The pursuit was then terminated due to the risk it posed to public safety.

Investigation yielded the motorist, 31-year-old Christopher Siegwald of New Jersey, went to the Red Roof Inn in Southboro. He was placed under arrest and faces eight charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, unsafe lane change, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating in the breakdown lane, and speeding on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

More charges will be issued by Connecticut State Police for Siegwald's violations on Route 84.
