Man Pleads Guilty in 2015 Slaying

Twenty-nine-year-old Andrew Mathieu pleaded guilty Tuesday

A Leominster, Massachusetts, man is heading to prison after accepting a plea deal in a shooting that left a Fitchburg man dead last year.

Twenty-nine-year-old Andrew Mathieu pleaded guilty Tuesday in Worcester to charges including manslaughter in the May 2015 killing of 24-year-old Roy Rivera. Mathieu was sentenced to 17-to-19 years behind bars.

Prosecutors say Mathieu and his girlfriend had driven to Fitchburg with their 7-year-old son to buy heroin on the night of the shooting. They say Rivera pulled up and confronted Mathieu and the two got into an argument.

Authorities say Mathieu shot Rivera after he struck Mathieu in the head with a bottle.

Rivera was found by police slumped over the steering wheel of a car. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
