Man Shot After Allegedly Stabbing Police Officer Due in Court

A man shot by a police officer in a Massachusetts doughnut shop after allegedly stabbing the officer in the neck is facing arraignment.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Jeffrey Torres, of Holyoke, is expected to be arraigned on Monday following the confrontation in a South Hadley Dunkin' Donuts last week.

The Northwestern district attorney's office says the officer responded to the coffee shop for reports of a disturbance at about 7 p.m. Friday.

Authorities allege after Torres stabbed the officer, the officer fired three times, striking Torres twice.

Both men are expected to survive. The officer's name wasn't released.

Torres is charged with armed assault with the intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
