Man Suspected of Arson Behind Hyannis Fire Department Arrested

A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning for an arson behind the Hyannis Fire Department in Cape Cod, according to fire officials.

Falmouth resident Allen Beckwith broke into the Hyannis Fire Department headquarters' storage container and started a blaze on an excavator, according to the Barnstable Fire Department.

Police responded to the scene at 12:20 a.m. and found Beckwith in the fenced construction site. One officer pursued him to a nearby pharmacy and made an arrest.

No injuries were reported but the excavator was deemed a total loss and several construction trailers received minor damage

Beckwith was charged with three counts of arson, trespassing and breaking and entering in the night with the intent to commit a felony. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Wednesday.
