Man to Be Extradited to Massachusetts to Face Murder Charge in Jaimee Mendez Killing

The suspect in the murder of a young Massachusetts mother will be brought back to the state to face charges after being arrested in Hampton, Virginia.

It's been over seven months since 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez's body was found on King's Beach in Swampscott.

Jason Fleury, a 37-year-old Level 3 sex offender, was arrested Tuesday. A judge granted extradition Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, Fleury was secretly indicted by an Essex County grand jury last Friday charging him with Mendez's murder.

He will be held overnight at the Massachusetts State Police Danvers Barracks and will be arraigned Thursday morning in Salem Superior Court.

Mendez, the young mother to an autistic boy, was last seen alive in November 2014.

Her family is still reeling with questions - her mother noted that she was upset that the media found out about the arrest before she did. She plans on speaking to the media Thursday.
