Mass. State Police Fugitive Captured in NJ

A fugitive who was named one of Massachusetts State Police's most wanted suspects was captured Tuesday in New Jersey.

Jeffrey Baby Lopez, 28, was apprehended at an apartment in Newark, New Jersey, following a six-month search by a wide range of law enforcement agencies, authorities announced in a press release.

Lopez was wanted on five warrants for a variety of violent charges. Last January, he and several other co-defendants allegedly kidnapped, pistol whipped, assaulted and robbed two people over the course of several hours in Lynn.

Lopez was also recently charged in an October 2016 drive-by shooting in Lynn.

He has been on the Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive List for the Massachusetts State Police's Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section since September 2017.

Since then, multiple agencies worked to track Lopez as he moved throughout New England: the FBI, the Massachusetts State Police, the Lynn Police Gang Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service of Boston. He was apprehended Tuesday by the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Lopez will be held in the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey, pending rendition back to Massachusetts.
