Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin is reminding residents of a program designed to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault hide their addresses from abusers.
The program allows residents who need to relocate because of stalking, domestic violence or sexual assault to use a confidential address provided by the program as their legal residence for work, school, and with government agencies.
The idea is to help conceal an individual's actual location from an abuser.
Galvin said the program has served more than 1,500 Massachusetts residents since it began. He said it has seen lower participation in Western Massachusetts counties in recent years despite above average rates of homicides relating to domestic violence in the region.
