Massachusetts' First Casino Set to Open Its Doors

The sounds of slot machines fill the air as sparkling lights flash and brand new restaurants beckon for customers to come inside.
In a matter of hours the game floor of the Bay State's first casino will be filled with gamblers and Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville will be born.

"It's hard to contain the excitement, honestly, because we've been working toward this now for the better part of two and a half years," COO Penn National Gaming Jay Snowden said.

Penn National Gaming won Massachusetts' sole slots parlor license, but Snowden says gamblers will soon see Plainridge Park is much more than that.

"Because it's the newest casino in the country we have the latest and greatest slot and electronic table game product as compared to any casino in the country," he said.

The casino is also smoke-free and 21-and-over, which its supporters say will help differentiate it from casinos in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

"My dad's excited about going, but I think it's good, I think it provides jobs for people in the area and I'm not a big gambler," Jessica Huot of Wrentham, Massachusetts, said.

"Actually I know a man I used to work with at Applebee's that has a job over there as a restaurant manager and he's really excited, so I think it'll bring a lot of people, money, jobs," Teri Hudson of Foxboro said.
