Massachusetts Man Arrested for Possession of Explosive Device

Bomb squad was able to detonate the device safely

A man is facing several charges after police in Hull, Massachusetts, discovered an explosive device while investigating a breaking and entering at his home.

Police said they were called to the Nantasket Avenue home of Kevin Butler, 26, after he reported his vehicle and a safe with money stolen. During the investigation, officers discovered what appeared to be an explosive device in the home.

The area was secured and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to detonate the device, which was a five-inch cylinder packed with explosive powder.

Butler was taken into custody and charged with possession of explosive/destructive device, possession of anabolic steroids, and disturbing the peace. He was released on bail pending his arraignment Wednesday at Hingham District Court.

The alleged breaking and entering at Butler's home is under investigation. His vehicle was located a short distance away.
