Massachusetts Officials Announce First Human Case of West Nile Virus This Summer

Health officials in Massachusetts have announced the first human case of West Nile virus this summer.

The Department of Public Health says the patient, a Middlesex County woman in her 70s, was diagnosed with West Nile virus through testing that was completed on Tuesday.

She remains hospitalized.

Officials say they're still determining where the patient was most likely exposed to the mosquito-borne illness.

There were 10 human cases of West Nile virus infection in Massachusetts last year.
