MSP Trooper, Other Driver Hospitalized After Duxbury Crash

The crash happened on the breakdown lane of Route 3 southbound, according to state police

A Massachusetts State Police Trooper and another driver were hospitalized after they were involved in a crash overnight.

State police said at about 12:20 a.m., a police cruiser was hit from behind by another car while on the breakdown lane of Route 3 southbound in Duxbury.

Footage at the scene showed the cruiser with some damage on its rear bumper and a truck with severe damage to its front. That truck stopped on grass off the side of the road.

The Trooper and the 51-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Beth Israel-Plymouth. The Trooper was released from the hospital Friday morning.

State police said the pickup truck driver might be cited "for motor vehicle violations."

It is unclear why the other vehicle struck the trooper. The crash remains under investigation.
