Massachusetts Woman's 3rd Trial in Killing of Wife to Start

First two trials ended with hung juries

A Massachusetts woman charged with killing her paramedic wife in their home more than six years ago is facing trial for the third time.

Carla Rintala's first two trials on a first-degree murder charge ended with hung juries.

Jury selection for her third trial in Hampshire Superior Court is scheduled to start Tuesday.

In a departure from the first two trials, jurors in this trial may be allowed to consider a manslaughter conviction. A judge has yet to decide that matter.

Rintala is charged with strangling Annamarie Cochrane Rintala in the couple's Granby home in March 2010. She has pleaded not guilty.

Her lawyers have said there was little evidence pointing to their client and that police failed to investigate other suspects.
