Downed Tree Prompts Shuttle Bus Service for MBTA Green Line

Service on the MBTA Green Line D Branch was disrupted Friday morning after powerful winds felled a tree near the tracks.

The MBTA said around 5:30 a.m. shuttle buses were replacing service between Riverside and Fenway stations as crews worked to remove the tree near Chestnut Hill. Crews were also assessing damage to overhead wires near the tracks.

An hour later, the agency said service had resumed betwee Riverside and Newton Highland stations. Shuttle service continued between Newton Highland and Kenmore stations.

The delays came after a Halloween storm battered the region with ferocious winds and steady showers overnight. The storm knocked out power for more than 50,000 people in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
